Grows best in sandy, coarse-grained or other fast draining soil. Prefers sun in coastal sites, and sun or part shade in inland sites. Selection from Washington park Arboretum in seattle, WA. Received an Award of Merit in 1971 and an Award of Garden Merit in 1984 from the Royal Hort. Society. possible hybrid of Ceanothus impressus,C. papillosus.
