Tolerates almost any soil type. Prefers sun or part shade in coastal sites, and part shade or shade in inland sites. Selected from Iris douglasiana 'Alba' seedlings for the garden by Dara Emery and introduced by Santa Barbara Botanic Garden in 1975.
