Arctostaphylos 'Sonia Q' is a prostate shrub manzanita that was discovered by Richard S. Davis and his wife Sonia Q. Davis in their private residence in Arrowbear, CA in 2014. The plant grows naturally in a Yellow Pine Forest habitat at 6,200ft elevation, USDA 6-7 climate zone. A. 'Sonia Q' has also been found to grow well in cultivation at the California Botanic Garden in Claremont, CA in both sandy, alluvial soil as well as clay.
A. 'Sonia Q' is evergreen, and flowers with white to pink flowers in winter and spring with a slow-medium growth rate. This plant grows about 5-6ft wide and 2ft tall.
It likes full sun, with a wide variety of soil drainage. Can tolerate down to 10 degrees, and can handle extensive snow exposure. Easy to care for in garden settings. Named in honor of Sonia Q. Davis who passed in 2015.
